The Imo State Governor-Elect, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedoha was last weekend received in the United Kingdom by the people of Imo State living in the UK. The event was a landmark as the people of the state used the occasion to portray their love for the elected governor. The crowed that received him at the event was very tremendous to a point that he was unable to walk through the crowed to his seat.
The Governor-Elect was full of joy and smiles, waving and shaking hands with the people. It was a great opportunity for people of the state who live in different parts of the United Kingdom to come together in London to receive their elected governor.
In the occasion, Ihedioha was given an Award by the Imo State Union for his excellent services in the Federal House of Representative. The Award was presented to him by Chief Onyeka Uzoukwu. He thanked the group for the honour given to him.
During his speech to the people of the State, Ihedioha reemphasized his commitment to the rule of law and maintained that he is a law-abiding citizen. He said, “we have existing governor in the state, Chief Rochas Okorocha, I will be sworn-in on the 29th May 2019”.

He showed his appreciation to the people of the state for the support given to him. He also showed his gratitude to the Imo Union UK, the group that put together the governor’s debate in Owerri, Imo state during the campaign. He thanked them for organizing the debate to ensure good governance in the state. According to him, he said, good governance is the most exercise a citizen can take. He seeked for advice, and requested that people should help them when sworn-in as the governor.
In his remark, he said to the people of the state that they are part and parcel of the government, asking them to take positive steps as a lot is expected from them, looking at how the state is at the moment. He requested for the people’s support and promised to respect the rule of law. He said that the three arms of the government will play a very successful role for the development of the state and demanded the people to take note of what he said. He continued by saying, it will be different this time, looking at the previous ways things were done, governance is a serious business to transform the lives of the people.

He challenged the committees currently set up in the state by him to get things done properly. He stated that government is not a place to play about, but a place for a serious business. He wants them to know and understand the legislature, judiciary, and the executive and their roles. He said that the judiciary is not working properly and maintained that facilities are needed to have an enabling environment to supplement their job. He addressed the need that the three arms of government, legislature, judiciary and executive to have their autonomy. And regretted that only the legislature and executive have such autonomy. He said, the judiciary should be given such opportunity as well.

He stated that the local government will start functioning to discourage urban migration.
In his urge to provide good governance for the people of the state, he said, the total of 57 billion naira is already owned to the workers in the state, and the incoming government, by 1st June, after handing over, the government will put the people “first”, but requested the people for their understanding and the government will see to those issues.

He further said, “I will be governor for all” he maintained, saying, “if you had committed before, please go for confession to the Church, because we will try to sanitise the state and a lot of people in diasporas want to return home, so we will have to have an enabling environment for them to stay. And for the state to have such enabling environment, he will step on toes, but further pleaded with the people that such move shouldn’t be seen as personal. “it is not personal”, he said, but it is to give the state the best to improve the life of our people.
He pleaded for people’s understanding and requested the people to bring up proposals on how to develop the state. He said, he has democrats and professors in the government, among them are, Kema Chikwe, Emmanuel Iheanacho, and over five Vice Chancellors he has to assist in developing the state. According to him, he has a committee responsible for the people in diasporas and requested individuals with good proposals to bring it by contacting them through the group’s Chairman.
On the Imo airport that recently got burnt, he said that they are taking stock on the damages and mapping out strategies to work on it.
In his speech, he said job creation is wealth, it will take away our youths roaming on the streets. He will engage in agriculture, stating that the state has solid minerals in the soil and he will take good advantage of it.
In his conclusion, he said, “I want to leave Imo State better than as I met it”.

Chief Charles Anyanwu, the Chairman, Imo State Stakeholders UK/Ireland, and the Director of Media & Strategy Imo UK 4 Ihedioha & Ironna, the official group that campaigned for Ihedioha in the UK thanked him for honouring the invitation extended to him by the people of Imo state living in the UK.
Chief Anyanwu, who is also the Chairman, Ezeagbogu Family Union UK expressed his happiness to see the governor he championed his campaign in the UK won the governorship election in the state. And with the tears of joy, he congratulated him and prayed for God to bless and give him the wisdom to govern the state, so his relentless efforts will bring joy and happiness to their people and those living in the State. Chief Charles Anyanwu hails from Ezeagbogu, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government, Imo state.
Chief Anyanwu commended Hon. Ejike Ikezuagu, the Spokesman, Imo State Stakeholders UK/Ireland whom he described as a strong force that supported him and other members of the group to achieve the result for the group in the UK.
Hon. Ejike Ikezuagu said, it is a thing of joy that the state is now in a safe hand, stating that he has confidence in Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha. He expressed his gladness, pointing out that the people will now begin to enjoy democracy and will begin to witness development in the state. Chief Anyanwu thanked Mazi Enyinna Amadikwa and the members for the role each played in achieving this great result for the state.
Among those who accompanied His Excellency, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha to the UK are, the elected senator in the last election representing the people of Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala, Hon. Bede Eke, Rt. Hon. Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi, representing Imo East, Chief Chinedu Chukwuonye, Hon. Anselam Okorie, Chief Chidi Ojinere, Hon. Uche Ogbuagu, amongst others.
